Camp MAC combines fun, learning, and the excitement of journalism all into one week. Throughout the camp, your child will learn the unique writing style of journalism, how to ask good questions, and how to be a stronger writer. Campers will write stories on counselor-produced news events, sports tournaments, and more by interviewing sources and working with their peers. By the end of the week, each group of campers will have written for their very own physical magazine while having tons of fun doing it.
News Writing: Learn how to deliver the latest and greatest in rapid time. Get first-hand exposure in news-writing by going through the process as a real-time news reporter before writing a relevant story to inform the public.
Sports Writing: Participate in and cover in an online tournament and learn to deliver enthralling recaps of sporting events. Sports writing puts an emphasis on visual writing and exciting details, helping readers to envision the game as the campers saw it.
Also: Personality Profiles, Verbatim, Broadcasting, Opinion, Reviews, Photography, and InDesign.
Fun! Although this summer camp has a focus on journalism, we are dedicated to ensuring that a camper's introduction into journalism is a positive, enjoyable experience. There are plenty of opportunities throughout each day for campers to relax and bond with other campers with fun games organized by our counselors.
Guest Speakers: We have invited guest speakers with journalistic backgrounds to share their stories with the campers. The guest speaker events are a great opportunity to learn about the lives of professional journalists and get inspired to write at a high school publication level.
And more.... Students can look forward to learning about magazine designing, how to write opinionated pieces, how to be a good interviewer and reporter, how to be a stronger writer, and more.
